decorative sound absorber spray

SonaSpray fc is a fire rated, one coat, seamless and decorative sound aborber that is spray applied to virtually any clean shape of surface. It has a lightly textured and firm finish that achieves superb acoustics by absorbing noise, instead of reflecting it.

Sound absorber SonaSpray fc will conform to most surface contours. In addition to flat surfaces it can be applied to barrel vaults, domes, corrugated decks, pan construction and other complex surfaces.

Its high performance sound absorber adhesive will bond to virtually all common construction materials including plaster, wood, metal and concrete. SonaSpray fc can be installed where panels or stretch fabrics are impossible and even with thin coatings it is an excellent sound absorber for building interiors.

  • SonaSpray is manufactured by ICC to ISO 9001.
  • Installed using a four stage Oscar Acoustics quality assurance plan.

Oscar was established in 1978; this experience enables us to provide a well detailed, quality installation that stands the test of time. From specification to installation, everything is kept in-house. Oscar Acoustics only use qualified in-house operatives who specialise in installing our systems to ensure high standards are maintained.

  • BIM Objects available for every product.
  • All products are included within all current NBS software.
  • Recessed and surface mounted items possible – see website for more information.
  • Standard detail drawings for most situations.
  • Bespoke detailing solutions possible.

SonaSpray is excellent at thermally insulating by creating macroscopic air spaces between and within the cellulose fibres. U-Values can be adjusted to your projects exact requirements by adjusting the spray material depth.

  • Dry Weight of SonaSpray fc per 10mm thickness = 1.60 kg/m2
  • Wet Weight of SonaSpray fc per 10mm thickness = 2.93 kg/m2
  • Dry Weight of SonaSpray fc per 20mm thickness = 3.20 kg/m2
  • Wet Weight of SonaSpray fc per 20mm thickness = 5.86 kg/m2

SonaSpray fc sound absorber can be applied to virtually any substrate. Some surfaces may need priming to control suction. Old surfaces may need a barrier coating to prevent staining from leaching out of contaminants whilst the surface is wet. Fully cured SonaSpray fc will improve strength.

Bond Strength:SonaSpray fc>600 psf ASTM E-736
Compression Strength:SonaSpray fc>400 psf ASTM E-761

The adhesive used with SonaSpray fc sound absorber provides a strong, durable and resilient bond. When fully cured, surface strength of old plaster will typically improve.

Recessed services e.g. spot lighting will require a halo spacer to match the material depth. Oscar Acoustics manufacture and install stainless steel halo spacers (drawing available) to the same size as the hole cut out. Stop beads may be required around openings which again we can supply and install. Specially designed access hatches are also available through Profab, enabling the SonaSpray to continue across the hatch door. Problems can arrise from using other hatches. These items are at extra cost and are to be purchsed direct from the Profab. Please contact Oscar Acoustics for details and item code. Surface mounted fittings e.g. hanging/pendant lights will require pattresses to match the material depth. Please contact Oscar Acoustics for further advice.

Please Note: 90% of flangeless fittings do not work properly with any acoustic finish. If you are specifying a flangeless fitting, please contact Oscar Acoustics for advice.

SonaSpray fc sound absorber can be quickly and effectively applied to most prepared surfaces and construction configurations. This allows minimum working down time in existing structures with abilities to meet critical deadlines in new construction. SonaSpray fc has a fine surface texture and is suited to ceilings of offices, restaurants, receptions, designer homes, school classrooms, swimming pools etc. in fact it is an excellent sound absorber for any premium indoor space with a noise problem.

Please note that it is important not to use moisture resistant plasterboard as this can cause staining of wet applied products. Oil based stain barrier paints can be used to prevent this. Please consult Oscar Acoustics for more information.

A minimum of 12.5mm thick plasterboard, installed to British Gypsum specification should be used.

SonaSpray fc sound absorber can be over-painted or applied with additional coats of SonaSpray. Small areas of damage can be repaired by hand. Maintenance of this seamless decorative sound absorbing finish is minimal.

If SonaSpray fc is disturbed or damaged so that fibre is released into the atmosphere, the resulting contamination is harmless. Maintenance work can be undertaken while the building is occupied. Please refer to COSHH data for detailed product analysis.

what our customers say

“Our experience over the years teaches us that architecture and interior design are so much more than just looks. We consider every factor with each project we work on, and acoustics is no exception. We knew we needed a premium acoustic product that would also work with our designs, which is why we chose Oscar Acoustics.

The acoustics here are absolutely amazing – those speakers on the stage are stadium quality!”

David Mason, Director of Hospitality at Scott Brownrigg, Hard Rock Hotel, London

“Having used SonaSpray on several other projects, we knew how effective it was at reducing office noise. It’s quickly become our go-to product and our clients are always happy to follow our recommendations due to the huge difference it makes, both in open-plan areas and cellular spaces.

Having used a competitor product recently, we noticed a drop in standard and only SonaSpray delivers both in terms of aesthetics and sound management. The finish on the project was exceptional and hides any imperfections, making it as visually strong as it is at reducing noise.”

Mariachiara Dal Pozzo, Associate Director, TP Bennett

“We had been running out of ideas on how to improve noise levels due to reverberation off our high ceilings during our busy monthly Dementia Café, when someone recommended Oscar Acoustics. Ben and his team responded quickly and recommended an application of their SonaSpray product. The installation was quick, just a couple of days, and the team were professional, friendly and cleaned up after themselves really well.

The difference was noticed immediately and at the next Dementia Café we didn’t have any patients complain about noise levels, meaning that more patients and carers were able to access support and advice.

Thank you so much to Oscar Acoustics for your support, as you can see your work has meant that this space is now much more accessible and user friendly for people with Dementia and we can continue to ensure our service supports as many people as possible.”

Heart of Kent Hospice – SonaSpray

“I am writing to congratulate your company for the success achieved in the reduction of the noise level in our school dining room when 200+ children are having their lunch.

Prior to the application of SonaSpray, the noise level was deafening, and now it is possible to talk to ones neighbour in a normal voice when lunching at the staff table…”
