Oscar Elite achieves superb acoustic results in Ottolenghi’s Nopi restaurant

‘Calm surround sounds – Yotam Ottolenghi used Oscar Acoustics to render shiny surfaces softly spoken’ – Fays Favourites, Evening Standard.

We are very proud to have been mentioned in the Evening Standard, for the superb acoustic result achieved in the beautiful restaurant NOPI by using our exceptionally smooth Oscar Elite acoustic plaster.

Fay continues, “It’s time to talk about noise in restaurants…I don’t always – just sometimes – harp on about the unpleasantness of sound ricocheting off unforgiving surfaces, thumping music shivering your timbers and having to give up on the idea of conversation with dinner. Hiring an acoustic engineer when a new restaurant is planned can be an expensive move but two of the most successful operators I know make it top of their list of priorities.”

Our brief for this project was to control just enough sound to make conversation easy over a table, but still retain an atmospheric buzz. We created an acoustic model for the project and introduced varying thicknesses of acoustic plaster until we came up with the perfect result. This theoretical calculated material depth was then spray applied to the ceiling with perfect results.

the importance of restaurant acoustics

We have been working very closely with Ottolenghi over the years, as they know the vital importance of getting their restaurant acoustics right. To date they currently have a SonaSpray acoustic spray ceiling in Ottolenghi Spitalfields, an Oscar Elite acoustic plaster ceiling in Nopi, Warwick Street, and most recently an Oscar Elite acoustic plaster ceiling in the beautiful new restaurant Rovi in Fitzrovia, London.
