About this project

With its student population increasing rapidly, University College London (UCL) required more space on its campus in Bloomsbury. Working with the University’s Design Team, Structure Tone helped develop a scheme to refurbish the ground floor and basement and also renovate Level 10 at Torrington Place. This provided the following new spaces:

New lecture theatres, receptions, breakout/social areas and various specialist-teaching spaces.

Oscar Acoustics were responsible for the supply and installation of SonaSpray FC in Arctic White throughout the lecture theatres and K-13 Special in black in the break out areas, reception and hallways. All of these areas incorporated high specification, colour coded finishes (white ceiling finishes indicating teaching space, whilst the black signifies communal areas and front of house).

Our range of acoustic spray finishes and colours offered the perfect acoustic solution, negating the need for any decoration and also reducing programme time with fast install times. The entire project was completed before the beginning of the new academic term, meaning the University could resume classes and business as normal without disruption before the students returned.
