achieving acoustic treatment excellence
Oscar Acoustics’ specialist in-house teams have installed our SonaSpray acoustic decorative sprays in countless commercial buildings, including entertainment venues, offices and retail spaces. We’re lifting the lid on some of the projects where our acoustic treatments have transformed busy areas into peaceful environments conducive to productivity and collaboration.
ANZ Bank: Pitch perfect sound treatment
When planning its new offices on the 12th floor of Canary Wharf, ANZ was determined to create a space that would put the wellbeing of its employees first. To create a harmonious office space where staff could easily communicate and get on with focused work, effective acoustic treatment would be required.
The office was being adapted from a two-floor setup to a single open-plan level. Without appropriate acoustic treatment, noise would easily spread and cause disruption. Having worked with Oscar Acoustics on several previous projects, the architects TP Bennett were confident they could avoid this problem by enlisting our support to reduce office noise.
Different zones were picked out for different activities, such as focused work, breakout sessions or private phone calls, meaning separate areas across the open-plan office needed to accommodate different levels of noise. To engineer the appropriate acoustic design for each zone, we recommended our SonaSpray K-13.
SonaSpray K-13, part of Oscar Acoustic’s range of acoustic sprays, was chosen for several reasons.
ANZ’s new office was set to be one of London’s most sustainable fit-outs, with the project included in the British Council for Offices report on Circular Economy in Offices. SonaSpray has frequently been used in green-build projects as it contributes towards sustainable design and health certification systems including BREEAM, SKA, and Living Building Challenge, and also adds up to 17 points towards the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating of a project. As such, it was the perfect choice to match ANZ’s high green ambitions.
Not only that, but SonaSpray also met ANZ’s safety requirements, with fire credentials that meet and exceed Approved Document B fire requirements. If fires occur, SonaSpray creates little to no smoke and zero droplets, making it safer for occupants to make an escape.
In terms of appearance, expert installation of SonaSpray K-13 by one of our specialist teams ensured a seamless finish that obscured imperfections. Above all, as a class-leading sound treatment, SonaSpray’s high performance dampened noise to facilitate the versatile requirements of the office. Once applied by our installation team to the office’s ceilings, SonaSpray prevented the spread of noise and created relaxing surroundings for staff.
HIDE Restaurant: Fine dining and premium acoustics
When this now Michelin star-awarded restaurant was being designed, HIDE’s architect was determined to create one of the best dining experiences in London. To facilitate a uniquely relaxing and enjoyable interior atmosphere, SonaSpray fcx would be applied throughout the 13,500 square foot building across two floors.
Naturally, the visual design of the space was of paramount importance. Our specialist in-house installation team worked with the designers to produce the acoustic spray in two bespoke white shades which would match the carefully selected colour palette.
SonaSpray’s versatility was also important. Applicable to any surface shape, it made the perfect accompaniment to the restaurant’s sweeping curved ceilings. Our team installed it on both floors of the restaurant and finished it with trowels, leaving a pleasant, lightly pitted appearance.
SonaSpray also supported the restaurant’s green credentials. Installed by Oscar Acoustics’ ISO-14001 certified in-house operatives, SonaSpray fcx is made from recycled paper and other renewable natural resources, and M1 certified as a Low Emitting Building Material – the best possible classification. Additionally, it’s GREENGUARD GOLD Certified for Indoor Air Quality and has met some of the world’s most thorough standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air.
By offering high acoustic performance, SonaSpray fcx helped to create a space where the grandness of the venue was complimented by the intimate-feeling made possible by supreme noise control.
Colchester Visual Arts Centre: Superb noise control without compromise
Without acoustic treatment, Colchester Visual Arts Centre’s hard timber flooring, minimal furniture and large open space would be blighted by loud noise reverberation that could spoil visitors’ day out. By bringing in Oscar Acoustic’s specialist team to install our high-performing sound treatment material, SonaSpray fcx, the gallery designer made sure that noise wouldn’t be an issue.
The centre’s minimalist stylings were a key design element. With SonaSpray, the designers didn’t need to compromise.
SonaSpray is adaptable to most surfaces, so the striking curves of the ceiling were no obstacle. To maintain noise control throughout the large gallery, reception and café area, our expert teams applied the spray across the whole of the building’s 3000m2 ceiling and then trowelled it on application. As SonaSpray fcx is through coloured there was no need for additional decoration, saving the project money and time.
Superb acoustics were achieved without impacting on the venue’s design, meaning visitors could take in the eye-catching architectural features in a relaxing acoustic environment.
